BOWLING NOTES.

Notwithstanding the lateness of the season owing to the unfavourable weather experienced recently, the enthusiasm of our local bowlers is ;as great as ever. Given a fine afternoon the green is always well patronised, especially on a Thursday afternoon.

On Anniversary Day (January 22nd) an inter-club match is to be arranged with Hunterville, which has now become an annual fixture. The match will be either held on the local green or at Hunterville, which will be arranged later on.

The pairs tournament on Boxing Day resulted iii 'Messrs. Mortland and Darvill proving the winners, after interesting play. It is hoped that keen competition will take place for the "Feathers and Neagle fours." Nominations are now being received. . A handsome gold medal has been donated by Mr Gourlay for the handicap singles competitions, which will be commenced as soon as possible. Nominations for the Championship and Mr. Fookes' trophy are now being received, and it is anticipated these two events will bring out some keen competition. It is noted with pleasure that quite a goodly number of novices arc taking a very keen interest in the game, and /the improvement displayed by some of them is most encouraging. This is a good sign, as from the ranks of the beginners will emerge players who will be able to uphold the best traditions of the club.

It is anticipated there will be numerous challenges for the Hum Cup during the coming season, the committee have deemed it desirable to select several trial teams in order to arrive at the strongest team to defend the trophy. Players are requested to put in as much practice as possible in order to qualify. It is the wish of the committee to give every player an equal opportunity.

The green is playing remarkably well at present, and a few sunny days will further improve it, and make it very fast. The New Zealand Bowling Championship Tournament opens in Auckland to-day; the entries numbering 13 . The fuU-rink championships will start on Monday.

The following Hum Cup trial teams have been arranged, the trials to take place to-morrow: Evans. James, Neagle, McKenzie (skip) play Wham.
