The death is .announced of Miss 78. Miss Talbot was the eldest Emily Charlotte Talbot, .at the age of daughter and co-heiress of Mr. Christopher Talbot, a colliery owner, who represented Glamorgan in the House of Commons from ISdO until his death in 1890. He left .a very large fortune and Miss Talbot was reputed to be the wealthiest woman in the kingdom. Her benefactions were numerous, especially to the Anglican Church. She was a generous supporter of war charities, and she converted Penrice Castle, her Welsh seat, into .an officer’s hospital. It was to her rare talent for business that the prosperous rise of Port Talbot from a small village to a thriving town, with docks, steel works and railway junctions was due.. When King Edward opened the now docks at Swansea he was Miss Talbot’s guest at Penrice Castle, which is famous for its organ cry, dating from the clays of Queen Elizabeth, when the trees were sent from Spain.
