The Influenza Epidemic.
INFLUENZA AT WELLINGTON, \ WELLINGTON, this day. The deaths of fourteen , soldiers from influenza are reported. Thirteen serious cases still remain in camps. Mr. Clemens publishes a letter traversing the Minister of Defence’s reply in th.e House with regard to his statement re an- orderly nursing influenza cases at Auckland. He says it was made to, him by the orderly himself, and repeated to others, and he (Clemens) can prove this. THE MORTALITY. WELLINGTON, Dec 10. Statistics prepared by the Registrar General for the city areas give deaths from influenza and pneumonia, to December 6th, as follows: Auckland, 967; Wellington, 383; Christchurch, 443; Dunedin, 241. It was immediately pointed out that as far as Wellington is concerned the figures are absurd —that already it has been published that the burials at i Karori for part of November were 709. It is. now stated that the figures only contain registrations, and not the actual number of deaths. Those for / Auckland are nearly correct, hut the others are incomplete. MARTON FREE. The epidemic is practically over, and the emergency hospital closed' yesterday, hut there are still a few cases in the district. The relief fund is now £650. Pongaroa now has six cases, none serious.
