i IN THE WANGANUI DISTRICT. The date fixed by the Wanganui Education Board for the re-opening of | schools after the Christmas vacation is Tuesday, February 4. A summer school for inexperienced | teachers was to have been held during 1 I the fortnight commencing February 4 ; I This would have necessitated the furj ther closing' of a number of schools. I The Education Department, in view of the fact that the majority of schools ( have been closed since early in November, has endeavoured to arrange for (the reopening of all schools in the Dominion on the same date, January 21 was suggested. Some boards favoured this date, others preferred January 27 and one Board fixed February 7. After, consultation with the actingchai aau of the board and with those ■ members who were available, it w r as decided that the schools in the Wanganui district should re-open on February. 4, and that the teachers' summer school should be held during the preceding fortnight. The Teachers' Certificate, Public Service, and Senior Scholarship examinations are to be held between January 6 and 20. The Junior Scholarship examination will be held on the 17th and 18th inst. , These dates have Been fixed by the i Department.
