V.C. COCKEREL.

One of the most wonderful birds in the world to-day is a cockerel which has raised £12,762 for the Red Cross and other war funds, says the "Pall Mall Gazette.' ' The bird is the property of Mr. F. C. Fyson, of Cambridge, who bought it for'2s at Warboys (Hants) Red Cross sale in 1915. Mr. Fyson had no sons to send to the war, and as he was above military age himself he determined with his bird to raise £IOOO for our wounded soldiers. This feathered Red Cross worker has been sold no fewer than.. 10,960. times, and has travelled 17,300 miles. Salisbury holds the record with. £535, including a bid of £IOO. The bird, known as the "V.C"' Cockerel, is quite, tame. It stands on its master's hand while being "sold," and frequently, crows its grateful thanks to the bidders.
