cj, RAILWAYMEN'S WAGES. i STRIKE IF GRIEVANCES NOT j REMEDIED WELLINGTON, Nov 29. A number of members representing both parties met this morning to hear a grievance from the Enginedrivers, Firemen, and Cleaners 1 Union. The ease for the union, which members acknowledged was a strong one, impressed all present, and emphasis was laid on the determination of the union to take militant steps unless the grievances (the ground for which had been admitted by the Minister) were immediately remedied. The union declared that it was not prepared to accede to the Ministerial suggestion I that existing conditions' should obtain till the men on active service return to New Zealand, and pointed out that in Australia the maximum payment was 16s a day s against 13/6 here. A deputation of members meets the Minister to-morrow to urge alleviation of the men's present disabilities. Mr. Veitch was appointed spokesman. The union contends that the Minister should grant the concession asked for. SUPERANNUATION RIGHTS. WELLINGTON, Nov 29. When the third reading debate on the War Legislation Bill was in progress to-night, the Premier informed the Labour group that it had been decided to repeal Sections 28 and 29 of last year's Act, dealing with the confiscation of superannuation rights of Civil servants, as the necessity for the sections had ceased. Mr. Veitch, who moved the repeal of the two sections when the bill was in committee, thanked the Premier for the Government's decision. Mr. Massey assured members that the I clauses objected to would be repealed by a clause when the bill reached the committee stage. ~ ,;;*. HONOURS FOR NEW ZEALANDERS WELLINGTON, this day.
