ANOTHER BRUMMY KAISER CUP.
Considerable attention has been drawn to the fact that the Kaiser 7 s yachting cup, which was recently offered for sale in New York and was though £I.OOO proved to be gold plate on common metal with a value of £7 only. Apparently the German Emperor made a practice of presenting goldplated white metal cups as solid gold trophies, for still another of his famous cups has proved to be practically valueless. In 1907 this famous sportsman organized a motor race on the Taunus course for cars of any nationality, the first prize being a massavc gold cup, impressive more by reason of its size than its elegSTnce. The Italian driver Nazzaro won the race on a Eiat car and became possessor of the £2,000 gold cup, and the Fiat Company having purchased it from him. decided to .offer it to the Government as a war gift. On being sent to the mint it was discovered that what had for ton years been supposed to be a solid gold cup was a gift-plate trophy of very little value.
