ITALIAN FRONT.
EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL. LONDON, October 28. The Anglo-Italian advance on the Piave is regarded as extremely successful. All objectives were reached. The Italian attack on the right and left was delayed somewhat owing to difficulties of bridge construction under heavy fire. Whatever the internal conditions in Austria, the enemy on the actual front shows no signs of declining morale. The enemy is fighting well. All Hungarian officers living in Vienna have been ‘recalled to defend the Hungarian frontier. BATTLE CONTINUES FIERCELY GAINS EXTENDED. Received 8.55 a..m LONDON, October 29. An Italian communique states: The battle continued fiercely throughout the night, and fully developed during the 28th-'of October on the front of the Twelfth and Eighth armies. We maintained and extended the bridgeheads, despite very lively opposition. Eastward of Grave Di Popbli the enemy ceded to the attacks by the Fourteenth British and Tenth Italian Army Corps. We broke through the enemy lines and liberated Borgomalanotte, Tezzenec, Eaimichaelo Di Piave, Cimadolvo, Setpolo and Di Piave Ormele, and entered. St. Lucia Di Piave and Vazzolo, prisoners captured and- guns are still uncounted. In Albania on the morning of 27th October, we entered Alessio, and arc marching on San Giovanni and Di Medua. ; . ; b.ftSf LS - BRITISH SMASH AUSTRIAN LINES 15,000 PRISONERS TAKEN • Received 8.40 a.m. NEW YORK, October 29. The British have smashed through the Austrian lines on the Piave. The Allies have captured fifteen thousand prisoners on the Piave: CONCERTED ALLIED ADVANCE CAPTURE OF PRISONERS AND GUNS REPORTED. Received 10.10 a.m.
LONDON - , October 29. A British and Italian official states: The Tenth Army’s attack is progressing most satisfactorily. On the right the Eleventh Italian Corps reached the line of Roncadelle, Ormele, and Tempo Eai. In the centre the Fourteenth British corps are in touch in the neighbourhood of Eai. and reached the line of Bonotto, and Damain one kilometre south of Borgovilla. The Milanese on the left of Eighteenth Italian corps attacked in a northerly direction, and is progressing well. All corps report further captures of prisoners and guns.
