MACEDONIAN CAMPAIGN.
SIX MILES FROM DANUBE
HEAVY REARGUARD ACTIONS
LONDON, October 24,
The Serbians are within six miles of the Danube. German rearguards under von Gallwitz arc resisting strongly in the Morava Valley. Green Guards, Montenegrins who revolted against Austrian oppression after the occupation of their country, arc greatly hampering the Austrian withdrawal from Montenegro. A DECISIVE SERBIAN VICTORY. Received 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Oct 25. The War Department officially announces that the Serbians decisively defeated the Austro-Germans in the Morava Valley. BULGARS AS BAD AS THE HUNS. TERRIBLE TREATMENT (OP SERBIANS. Received 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Oct 25. Mr. Ward Price says the Serbian prisoners in the war camp on the outskirts of Sofia present terrible evidence of the hatred between Bulgaria and Serbia. On the main road to Radomir is a muddy compound, three acres in extent, surrounded by barbed wire. In this pen are 103,000 Serbians of all ages, with a few Greeks, Russians, and French. The latter are lodged in a few white-washed mud huts. The Serbians have lain in the open, day and night, winter and summer, for three years, without blankets or protection of any kind. They packed their wretched bodies together at night like a herd of animals. The food was found to be black bread daily. The soup was a cauldron of hot water with a few maize pods. Mr. Ward Price, continuing his story of the prisoners’ experiences under their Bulgarian captors, says ten Serbians died during the night. The Bulgarians put the bodies in a cart and'an hour later the cart returned with the day’s bread ration. The Serbians never saw a Bulgarian doctor. Mr Ward Price says the Serbians fed the Bulgarian prisoners as well as the Allied troops. A terrible scandal lies at the very door of the Bulgarian Government.
