VALEDICTORY.
0Yesterday afternoon a representative gathering of citizens and railway members met at Em’s Hotel to say' good-bye to Mr. W. Moloney, who in leaving Taihape to-nigbt for Wliangarei. Mr. W. Crawford occupied the chair and called upon Mr, W. J. Munro to make a presentation to the guest as - token of esteem in which he was by those present. : - Mr. Munro referred to the willingness of Mr. Moloney to aslsst at aii times and for all causes, adding t..:. ho had never been called upon to help in Taihape in vain. He had been active in assisting the Working Women’s Club, hockey club, and in matters socially. On behalf of those 'present he had great pleasure in asking Mr. Moloney to accept a travelling rug and fountain pen from his Taihape friends. Mr. W. Herbert and Mr. W. Crawford, on behalf of the locomotive men, congratulated Mr. Moloney on Els rapid promotion and his ability whilst acting as depot chargeman at Taihape. Mr. S. Dunbar, on behalf ol the Hu::-. Hockey Club and sports generally,, thanked Mr. Moloney for the very generous assistance given during his stay here. Mr. S. Behan spoke on behalf of the townspeople; Mr. A. Russell on behalf of the engineering staff, Mr. T. Hastedt as the oldest driver, and Mr. T. Street on Tsehalf of the Maintenance 9 _ Branch. Mr. Moloney, in reply, thanked all those who contributed for the useful and valuable tokens of regard, and for their good wishes in .connection with his promotion to locomotive foreman at Whangarei. Whilst in Taihape he had endeavoured to 3b justice to the Department and the staff, also, and had apparently succeeded. He regretted having to~sever the ties of comradeship which had sprung up since his short stay in Taihape, hut n mans' ambition was to reach the top of the ladder, and to do that Be had to sacrifice parting with his Taihape friends, whom he hoped to meet at some future date. A pleasant little function terminatedwith three cSeefs for the guest ana the singing of the time-honoured "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
