TAIHAPE AND DISTRICT PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Gem eral Committee 'was held" on Monday, the 14th October. His Worship the Mayor presided and there were 15 members present. Apologies were received from three members and lcav» of absence granted. The report of the exeatstivc committee was read by the chairman, who moved its adoption; this was seconded by Mr. James and carried. The report of the Returned Soldlora-sub-committee was read by Mr. James, who moved Its adoption, seconded by Mr. Powell and carried. These reports showed that six ap plications for financial assistance hat. been granted and three declines; three loans to ex-soldierT have been repaid; two grants authorised by other societies have been refunded. One returned soldier has been assisted with his application for pension, and employment has been found for three others. One soldier in camp has been assisted with his application to the Financial Assistance Board for rent allowance. The alterations. and amendments to the rules of the Society, adopted by a special meeting of members on the 29th 'August, 1918 ,have been approved by the Hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs. Under the amended rule of membership the annual subscription or 5s becomes due.
The report of the reception and visiting committee was read by the secretary, who moved its adoption, seconded by Mr. Gibbs and carried. This report showed that a number of returned men were met at the railway station on their arrival and when required assistance was given to reach their destination. The treasurer’s report showed that investments “remain the same as previously reported, the credit balance at the Bank of Australasia being £Bl I3s 2d.
A resolution, placing on record the sincere thanks of the Society to the Rangitikei General and Co-Operativo Timber Coy Ltd., for its liberal contributions to the funds of the Society was moved by the chairman and carried by acclamation. -N An appeal for typewriters for use in training classes for soldiers was received from London; it was decided to accept with thanks the offer of the chairman to solicit donations of machines. Departmental correspondence of a routine character was dealt with. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting .
