FOOTBALL.
To-morrow, Thursday, the final Ls-a-side football match will be played on the local recreation ground between Ohakune and Taihape. The game should prove fast and interesting, a«though late in the season Ohaku heat Taumarunui and Taihape beat Taumarunui, so the game should prove very even. A collection will be taken at the gate to assist the local team in entertaining the visitors. Tno game will start at 3 p m. sharp.
o—— PLAYING THE AMENDED RULES.
INQUIRY OPENED. PLAYERS SUSPENDED. ' WELLINGTON, this day. The Wellington Rugby Union lass night commenced an inquiry, as ’ordered by the New Zealand Rugby Union, in reference to the alleged playing of amended rules in the Auckland versus Wellington match on September 7th. Only four players appeared, and after taking evidence it was resolved to suspend the following players until they appear; Valentine, Christopherson, A. Thomas, Aitken, Morris, Arthur Parker, Albert Parker, Eberhardt, Marks, and B. Thomas. The players not suspended were Porter, Nicholls, Tilyard. and Troy, who attended, and Tancred, who is away from Wellington. Nicholls. the captain, stated he was not party«to any arrangement. He had J been approached respecting the proposal that there be no chatgteg of free kicks and replied he would leave matter to"the forwards.
Troy said he was not aware of any
agreement. Mr. Griffiths, a member of'the Rugby Union, shated that in his’hearing the two captains' agreed there would’ be no charging of free kicks, Tilyard stated that Mr.-Griffiths told Wellington team prior to the 1 game that tile captains had agreed" that'free * kicks should not be charged.
