The finder of a silver wristlet watch that was lost' in Taihape about a month ago, is asked to kindly return it to the Taihape Daily Times Office.
The first aerial mail delivered in Auckland, was made on Sunday, one of the seaplanes of the Kohimarama Flying School conveying letters and papers to Motuihi Island from the school. The journey occupied exactly XI minutes.
A special notice about the Skating Rink which will be opened to-morrow night at the Three Stars, Taihape, is inserted in to-day’s issue. The Rink has been prepared for a lengthy season; special decorations have been used to brighten the place up, A successful season is looked forward to.
The price of Waikato coal will be increased in Wellington as follows:—• Household by 2s a ton; steam and kitchen, 1/6; unscreened Is. It is said that the increase is made necessary solely by the granting of the 10 per cent, additional wages to miners. It is expected that Westport companies wil also advance their prices.
"Excuse me if this letter does not seem too cheerful,” writes a Blenheim soldier from England, "but. a few days back someone boat me for my spare shirt, just after I had put in half an hour washing it, mind you. However, it is a matter that is easily fixed up — just question of someone’s washing my size of shirt, and no one but me about."
Several applications from young women, for enrolment as flying pupils at Soekburn, have been received by the Canterbury 'Aviation Company. Although these applications cannot be entertained while the supply of candidates for the Air Force continues, it is regarded as certain that many women will learn to fly at Soekburn in the not far distant future.
A school of 37 blackfish became stranded at Hatfield’s Bay, Orewa, during Thursday night. Three others went ashore at Waiwera. It is sfated that some of the fish measured from 16ft to 18ft in length. They were discovered early on Friday morning by the residents of the locality, who marked them with a view to boiling down the carcases and extracting the oil. It is estimated that oil to the value of approximately £6OO should be obtained from the stranded fish. Orewa was visited by a large number of people during the week-end, when the boiling down operations were being carried on.
The fishing season opened yesterday The smaller streams are said to be in good condition.
Cement is quoted at 105 s per ton in Australia. In Auckland the price stands at 95a.

Mr. R. F. Sorenson, of the Olympic Rink, Hastings, arrived in Taihape yesterday to open the skating rink at the Three Stars Theatre. The boy, Wilfred Sorenson, will give a fancydress exhibition on the opening night, Thursday, October 3. The season will he an extended one, and learners will have an opportunity of learning this favourite pastime. The prices will he the usual rink prices.
The New r Zealand Alliance executive unanimously passed the following resolution concerning the use of wine for sacramental purposes; —“The Alliance declares its fixed policy is, and always has been ,that any prohibitory law should provide for the exemption of wine for sacramental purposes, and that no such law should interfere with sacramental usage of any church. (2) That any statements to the contrary which have been made were entirely unauthorised and unwarranted.’'
