AMERICAN TRANSPORT SUNK 23 OP CREW MISSING. WASHINGTON, September 23 The Navy Department has announced that the Buena Ventura, an army cargo vessel, was torpedoed off the coast of Spain on Friday. Twenty-three of the crew are missing. A SCHOONER’S GALLANT FIGHT DRIVES OFF THREE U-BOATS. Received 8.|50 a.m. LONDON September 24. A British schooner put up a remarkable four and a half hours’ fight with a German submarine flotilla. The first submarine attacked at nine o’clock, and the schooner immediately opened fire, hitting the submarine the first' shot and the enemy submerged. An hour later a second submarine attacked and the schooner hit the submarine and twice drove it off. Finally a third subarine appeared at noon. One of the schooner’s shots struck the submarine’s’ gun and killed a seaman. The submarine fled. U.S. TRAWLER CAPTURED. * NEW YORK. Sept 23. The United States' trawler Kingfisher was captured 500 miles off the coast by a U-boat. It is suspected tbe crew were set adrift.
