A WERAROA ESCAPEE.
An escapee from the Weraroa Training Farm, a native lad about 14 years, old, was captured at Tangiwai yesterday. The first heard of the lad by the Taihape police was from Mataroa, where he was trying to sell a bicycle. He went from Mataroa to Ngarukehu, where he had brokeninto a dwelling and stolen clothing and boots, besides other articles. The Taihape police communicated I with tne Ohakune police and Constable An'nison went in quest of the enterprising young Maori, and arrested him on the afternoon of the 10th, the boy wearing the clothes and boots he had stolen. When taken he produced a reservist's registration card, which, he assured the policeman, was his own, but as he was only 14'the constable concluded the card had been taken from the pockets of the stolen clothes. When questioned about the bicycle he said he had stolen it from in front of a church in some place between Foxton and north of Marton, but he didn't know where. Tie was brought before the Court at Taihape, and remanded to Wanganui to be dealt with by the stipendiary magistrate.
