FOOTBALL.

On Saturday the public are promised the opportunity of witnessing a first class football match .between the local representative team and a team from the railway staff on the Main Trunk. The railway team selected, if available for the match, should give a good account of itself and put up a fair performance against the pick of Taihape and district. The railway team contains five who helped in the defeat of Raetihi last Thursday, Bennett, Campbell, Connolly and Munro. In addition D. Hay, who played here for Rangitikei, Ness and Jones, of the Raetihi, and Thorn, of the Ohakune team, and Dowling (Wangamii) will also assist the railway team. The remainder of the railway team will be picked from the staff available at Ohakune, Mataroa, and Taihape. The railway team in the past few years has turned up regularly for their annual defeats, but this year they are hoping at least for a loss of a less magnitude than that of former years.
