The annual inter-provincial Rugby Union match between Wellington and .Auckland was played in the northern city on Saturday, and *.ttractocl an attendance of about 10,000. Fairly e/cily matched the two teams gave a splendid display of the good old game, the play at times being brilliant. The game ended m favour of the team from the capital city by 18 to 14. A referee, who proceeded against two players for assault after a match iu Sydney recently gaid hvhenf he was taken to St. Vincent hs Hospital for treatment it was found that his teeth were loosened, his nose was broken and his eyes were bunged and blackened. One of the defendants was fined £lO, with the option of three months’goal, and the other was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment.
