Henry Cook, found guilty of robbing Savings Bank officials by snatching bundles of notes from the counters, was sentenced to 10 years' hard labhour. He protested his innocence. One of his exploits was the grabbing of notes to the value of £4OO from the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank on May 31. He then escaped by the aid of confederates two of whom were arrested.

The picture benefit kindly given by Mr. Swedlund, of the Town Hall Pictures, in aid of a soldier's widow, who has three children and is quite unable to do anything towards making a living, is meeting with most liberal support. A large number of tickets have been sold, and as the beneficiary is without furniture and almost without clothing, and as she can scarcely move about, all the money that is raised, and more, will be needed to furnish conditions that will make life bearable.
