AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

A SIDNEY SENSATION. SYDNEY, July 18. A sequel to the motor-car jewel robbery is reported. The police learned that the thieves would attempt to dispose of the proceeds and set a trap at certain pawnbrokers' shops. A man appeared, but evidently recognised the detective and fired point blank, wounding the detective twice. An exciting chase followed, in which other detectives joined. Fifteen shots were exchanged. The suspect escaped.
