KING’S THEATRE. Gail Kane, who left the World Film Company to join the Mutual, has been provided with a powerful ol'ama for her first starring vehicle. “Whose Wife?” is a story of extraordinary strength, and has a plot that is boldly original. The heroine, deserted by the elderly roue whom she had been persuaded to marry, and hearing that he is drowned, marries again The husband returns, and manages to inveigle her to his rooms. The intensity of the emotional scenes is relieved by one very Avitty scene, in 'which the distracted young laAvyer endeavours to engage a typist. He gives them a test which they fail to pass, owing to at least one instance to the liberal use of chewing-gum. The supporting pictures include the latest Gazette, comedy, scenic, etc.
EVERYBODY’S.
Douglas Fairbanks adds another feather to his cap in his second Artcraft production, “Do\A T n to Earth,” showing at the Town Hall, to-morrow (Saturday.) This comedy-drama is the result of his latest effort as an author, and judging from reports it accents more than ever the Avonderful optimism which has contributed so largely to the success of “iMan Behind the Smile.” “Down to Earth” tells of the typical American youth whose ideas of being close to nature are not in accordance Avith tnose of his SAveetheart, an ambitious society bud. Bridge parties, matinee dances, tea parties, and sumptuous dinners are the important items in the pretty girl’s social career, and these occupy too much of her time for wanderings amidst God’s country in the great outdoors. How the persistent youth takes her away from her surroundings and wins her over to his Avay of thinking despite herself is said to offer one of ihe amusing tonics the screen has 'yet displayed. Many typical Fairbanks surprises are promised, ranging in variety from doing a handstand o na mountain precipice, 8000 ft. above sea-level, to teaching a hippopotamus the famous Fairbanks! smile. Supporting “Down to Earth” is a five reel Bluebird production, “The Clock” and the latest Australian Gazette.
