OBITUARY.
MALCOLM WELTIE.
The friends of the late Malcolm Weltie are advised his funeral will
leave the Roman Catholic Church to-
morrow (Friday) afternoon, at'halfT>ast two o’clock. The deceased was widely known in the Taihape district, u .where he. had resided for about fifteen years; he was a man of exceptionally
high character, and was respected by all sections. ..of the community. He came from. Australia to this district, and it is understood that he had no relatives in' New Zealand. It is indeed questionable wffiether the late Mr Weltie had an enemy in the whole
of this great territory; he worked
■with Mr. J. Kilkolly for about eleven years, and Mr. Kilkolly regarded him as a friend and not as an employee. He was a good, conscientious workman; being somewhat reserved, he never desired public notice, but he was ever ready to liberally support all patriotic work, and his natural kind-heartedness was mainly the basis of the extreme popularity he enjoyed. The grief at his departure, after about a week’s illness, will be widespread and general, and several leading settlers, including some of the largest sheepfarmers, have signified their intention to attend the funeral.
