BERNE, July 6

Extraordinary rumours are circulating in Austria regarding Emperor Karl and the Empress. Some declare that the Imperial couple have fled. Other rumours, which the authorities describe as abominable, refer to the illness of the Empress. Herr Wekerle protests against these statements, and says they are intended to exhibit the Empress in a scandalous light. The Royal couples’ family life has been unprecedently fair and moral. Telegrams from Austria also indicate a serious spread of the epidemic of hunger typhus.
