Mr Goldfinch, in a speech in London, said the agreement by which the Imperial Government acquires the Australian wool clip assured the best interests of both parties, and provided a remunerative .cash price for the entire production, irc’spective of whether shipped or not. This secured the Empire’s military requirements for the war period and trade requirements after the war. NATIONAL SHIPYARDS. SELECT COMMITTEE'S REPORT. Received 9.25 ajm_ LONDON, June 30. The Select Committee in National Expenditure draws attention to the fact that the scheme of national shipyards was embarked upon without an estimate of cost and without reference to the Treasury scheme. This would not to initiated unless it was believed that military and war prisoners’ labour would be available. This has been abandoned owing to organised Labour’s opposition The Committee comment that before the scheme was begun it ought to have been ascertained that the conditions necessary to success could be fulfilled.
CRICKET. Received 9.25 a_xn. LONDON, June 30. / A cricket match was played at Lords between teams picked from the Dominand England. The scores were Dominionss 166, England 66. The last English wicket fell at 6 o’clock, in the presence of 12,000 spectators. The Dominions batted again uneventfully but had no bearing on the result of the match. BRITAIN’S RIGID ECONOMY.
