o BLAZE IN CONSTANTINOPLE. 8,000 HOUSES DESTROYED. AMSTERDAM, June 11. A fire in Constantinople swept through a large portion of the city. A total of 8,000 houses, iu addition to scores of shops and other buildings, were destroyed before the brigades succedcd in quelling the outbreak. GIVING INFORMATION TO THE ENEMY. SENSATIONAL CHARGE AGAINST NATURALISED GERMAN. Received 10.15 a.m. LONDON, June 12. The Daily Chronicle says a sensational charge in connection with communication to Germany of information of military importance will to-day be brought against a well-known manufacturer, who is a knight, and was formerly Lord Mayor of a North England town. This is the second defendant who has been holding a position in a Government department; both naturalised Germans. BRITAIN’S NEED OF WOOL. Received 9.25 a.m. LONDON, June 12. Lord Illingworth, speaking at the exhibition of Standard Cloths at Bradford, said 70 per cent, of the wool used in Britain was needed for official purposes. More wmuld be needed to clothe the Americans. The submarine interfered with the importation of wool, but the situation was well in hand, standardising being extended to hosiery and other textiles. AN IMPROVED MAN-KILLER, Received 9 a.m. LONDON, June 12. The Liberal War Committee deputation waited, oi! the Premier, urging that steps be taken without delay to secure the control, manufacture, and supply of Madsen guns.
