Vountary recruiting is now open only for youths of 19 and 20, and to men of Classes B_ C. and D. of the Second Division, provided they arc willing to go into camp not later than with the 43rd draft concentrating in the week 18th' to 22nd June.

The Rangitikei A. and P. Association announce in our advertising columns that they are holding their Winter Show in the Town Hall, Taihapc, on Wednesday and Thursday the 26th, and 27th June. Classes are provided for poultry, field roots, garden produce and home industries. The New Zealand Leghorn Championships and shields and other trophies will be competed for at this Show. Schedules giving full particulars of the prize list and classes may be had on application to the Secretary, A. M. Ryan, Box 81, Taihapa.

A peculiar attitude by farmers lias prevented some promising lads in Wellington from beginning a career in tbc country (says the Post). The Labour Department’s Employment Bureau has been in touch with some bright, willing youths, eager to learn a rural occupation, but apparently the average farmer docs not wish to bo bothered with apprentices, even with an assurance of aptitude for work. The demand is always for the “experienced lad.” The question is asked: How is the town lad to become “experienced” in country work if ho is not granted an opportunity to learn?

-Speaking of the Central Powers’ financial position after the war, a Kew York paper says: “They may go on as long as they wish, so far as finances are concerned, among themselves. They may issue all the banknotes they wish. They could use iron for money or shells or stone. The blow will come when they are again in contact with traders who have to see the colour of their gold. That necessarily will mean great losses to the people of the Central Powers. Their holdings will bo scaled down in ways the mass of the people do not dream of, for the outsTde world will take none of tWs- emergdney money.”
