AUXILIARY NAVAL SERVICE. GOOD WORK DONE. Received 10.15 a.m. LONDON, April 29. The excellent work of motor launches in the Zcebruggc attack calls attention to the splendid services of these craft throughout the war. Motor launches of the auxiliary patrol are chiefly manned by men who are amateur yachtmen in peace, time, and consisted in the early war ure craft. Since then these have been replaced by specially constructed launches. Year after year they have kept the sqas in the worst weather ..when other vessels were compelled to,,seek shelter. They played a great part in searching and clearing mine areas and fighting U-boats. Admiralty records contain many instances of the fine work of trawlers, manned chiefly by fishermen. One naval reservist commanding a trawler was instrumental in saving 56 survivors from eight torpedoed ships in his area.
