TAIHAPE PATRIOTIC SOCIETY
The adjourned monthly meeting of the General Committee was held in the Society’s office on Wednesday evening,, his Worship the. Mayor sent an apology for absence, but explained that ho might posibly be able to attend later in the evening. i Mr Geo. Wrightson was voted to the chair. There were 11 members present. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Deacon and Neagle. The secretary reported that he had received the Rhngitikei Co-operative Company’s cheque for £25 since last meeting, being their contribution to the funds of the Society for March. The Returned Soldiers’ Tjub-commit-tee reported on 19 cases which it had considered since last meeting, of which 2 had been declined and 4 are- still under consideration. Seven applicants have been assisted with a cash grant, .jvhile 4 have been provided with a suit of clothes, Employment has been found for two returned soldiers. Application has been successfully made In two cases to the Pensions Board for increased pension Another application in the same direction is still under consideration by the Pensions Board. Ton recently returned soldiers have been written to. It was also reported, that Drs. Boyd and Sinclair had both expressed themselves as wauling to accept position of Honorary Meaical Advisitors to the Society. The Committee made the following recommendation to the Central Committee: “That efforts be made to secure services of a ladies visiting committee. ’ ’ The Secretary was directed to send a letter of thanks to Drs. Boyd and Sinclair. 9 Mr # .James moved in regard to sug : gosted ladies . visiting committee: “That it be made a recommendation for discussion at the annual general meetiuig. ’ ’ Seconded by Mr. Aldridge and carried. ' The chairman moved: “That this being the last meeting of the present committee it desires to place on record its. appreciation of the generosity of Messrs. (wH’o arrived 1 ” as ; the‘motion was put to responded, after which he proposed f ' That this committee places on re.cord it’s appreciation of’the great and unstinted services of theßeturnod Soldiers’ Committee, Messrs, dam.es, ,Pow: ell and Neagle.” This was seconded by f Mr.' Wyiglitspn who said that this Sub-commUte^.had during the year held .43 meetings, Vand given a immense amount of* time to •the duties' 'pertaining ’ to" the position. He asked the meeting to show, its ,appreciation of their services by .carrying the resolution by ' Mr. James responded. He said Jhat the work of the committee had been arduous, but the thanks of the general committee' and the manner in which they were expressed was sufficient compensation. In declaring the meeting closed the Chairman said he hoped that all present would do what they could towards securing a eood attendance at the anmml general meeting on Monday evening- /
