TAIHAPE PATRIOTIC SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the general, committee was held on Monday even-if ing, in the Society's office,''His Worship the Mayor occupying sxe chair. There were eleven members present.
Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Wakeman, PaunTn, Wrightson, Powell, and Beacon.
The following contributions have been received since last meeting:— Rangitikei Co-operative Timber Ltd., £25; Taihape Borough Council, 5 per cent, on gate money at the Rangitikei A. and P. Show, February, 1917, £8 10s.; Messrs Quin Bros., £2 2s,
Payment by the Society of second instalment of £lO, part of contribution of £SO for Regimental funds and monthly contribution of £lO it.o the Y.M.C.A. were approved.
The treasurer's report showed the total funds controlled by the Society to stand at £11,759 5s lOd. The treasurer, Mr. Beacon, who is due to go into camp on the Ist May, has asked to be relieved of his duties, at an early date.
The returned soldiers' sub-commit-tee reported on 18 cases, whicH it considered since last meeting of gen-'
eral committee, one aplieation has been declined, in one case a suit ot clothes and a small amount of cash has been granted, four grants of cash and three suits of clothes have been made and in one case a suit of clothes, has been provided on account of the Wairarap a Patriotic Society, four applications forwarded through other societies remain to be dealt with when further particulars asked for are supplied. In one case assistance has been secured from the Financial As-
sistance Board, two applications havebeen made for increased pension, neither of which has been decided, one recently returned soldier has been written to.
The visiting and reception committee reported that only one Soulier had returned to Taihape since last meeting; he arrived by an earlier train than advised, consequently, he was not met at the railway station; Tie
was, however, seen and spoken to -inring the day on which he arrived. Proposed by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Neagle, that the annual meeting be held on the 22nd April.—Carried.
The chairman reported that Mr, Ramson. officer in charge of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, visited Taihape on the Ist Feb^f
ruary and the secretary gave an account of his interview with him.
