STORM ON EAST COASTf GISBORNE, this day. A storm is raging along the coast with heavy rain, and rivers are flooded. The Waipawa River overflowed its banks at midnight and a portion of the flats are inundated, .causing considerable damage to maize and other crops. Precautions are being taken that will lessen the losses of stock. Railway traffiic is interrupted. INQUEST AT TE KUITI. TE KUITI, this day. At the inquets on William Nash, returned soldier, killed on Friday, at the Railway Station, the verdict was that death was accidental, no blame attaching to anyone. The action of Railway Cadet Smith, in attempting to assist the deceased while in difficulties was worthy of the highest [ praise.
THE WEST COAST MURDER. EGGERS EXECUTED TO-DAY. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Frederick William Eggers, convicted of-the murder of John Courlthard, on the West Coast, was executed at Lyttelton to-day. His demeanour on the scaffold was very firm. In a statement to the Sheriff, which the press was unable to obtain except in snatches, the murderer persisted that he did not do the shooting.
