THE MODERN HUNS.

INDICTMENT BY A FAMOUS NATURALIST. ~

Mr. John Buroughs, the famous octogenarian naturalist, sends to - the New York "Tribune" a powerful plea for the ostracism of all things German, under the title of "Can Peace Make us Forget?" He recites the unspeakable atrocities of the Germans, and asks if after the war the world will be willing to say "Never mind, let it all pass; business is business and it will all be the same in a hundred years." For himself, Mr. Burroughs says:—"l will never again use an article made in modern Germany, if I know it; I will never look into a modern German book; I will favour the exclusion of the German language and literture from one schools and coTlesres; and I w-udd drive every unn-.t.i" alised German from this cmntry. We do not want thoir ideas or their nic-tb-ods. Their ideas ar2 subv>v,i'•? o! our democratic ideals and thefr methods enslave minds vnn lead us efficiency chiefly in :.hc ne!.i of organised robbery. They are efficient, just as Krupp guus, asphyxia tiag: gap, aud liquid fire are officii. They invent nothing, but they add a Sftauic touch to the inventions of others and turn them to infernal uses."
