VIOLENT.ARTILLERY ACTION. -i Received 5.50. LONDON, February 28. A French communique' reports vio-" lent artillery activity in the region of Butte du Mesnil and on the left bank of the Meuse. IMMINENCE OF THE GERMAN ATTACK. PARIS, Feb 27. The "Petit Journal's" correspondent at British Headquarters says: There are ever-increasing indications that a German attack is imminent. Activity is most noticeable at Arras, Cambral, St. .Quentin, ■ and Passchendaele. The enemy have built gigantic blockhouses protected by barbed wire entanglements. They have established sixteen new hospitals and 22 aviation grounds: ' Prisoners declare that all leave passes have been cancelled. It is believed that fighting will recommence at the beginning of March.

LONDON, Feb 28
Sir Douglas Haig reports:—On the 28th the Canadians made a successful raid at Lens.
There is hostile artilery fire at Cambrai, La Bassee, Armentieres, and Ypres.
Our artillery engaged an infantry transport at St. Quentin. British aviators made long distance reconnaissances and bombed railway sidings and junctions in the Courtra: and Valenciennes district, and aerodromes at Douai. We downed fifteen enemy machines. Eight of ours are missing.
We bombed barracks at Treves and an aerodrome at Metz, with good results.
