AN AMUSING MIX-UP.
An English paper states that the young and pretty wife of a lieutenant recently figured in an amusing family mix-up. in London. An elderly widowed relative with whom she was staying at a remote garrison station confided to her that she had "set her cap" at a certain widower Major, who was shortly expected to tea. Trie widow was in serious distress because the sudden desertion of her only maid left her without attendance In a burst of generosity the younger woman offered to don black dress, cap and apron, and carry the tea-tray for the day.
The Major duly arrived, and much to the chagrin of the widow, who was powerless to protest, paid a great deal of attention to the pretty companionmaid. Matters reached a crisis when a young officer arrived to bring, him
an important despatch from headquarters. The dismay of the wire, can be imagined when, on opening the door, she found herself confronted by her own husband.
