At a conference of newspaper proprietors in the Auckland provincial district on Thursday, it was stated that the landed cost of paper had increased 300 per cent during the last three yeears, and that the average receipts from the sale of newspapers do not nearly cover the cost of the white paper actually consumed. In Great Britain the selling price of news papers was doubled two years ago, and a similar rise took place In other parts of the Dominion, early last year. After a full discussion it was decided to adavnce the price of newspapers delivered to weekly subscribers In town and country to 9d per week, and to casual readers the price will be 2d< This practically brings the 'Auckland newspaper proprietors into line with other parts of New Zealand.
