A Sensational Escape.
FROM DETENTION CAMP. GUARD ATTACKED AND BADLY MAULED FOUR MEN GET AWAY. Received SA WELLINGTON, this day. There was a sensational escape from'' the military detention camp at Trentham last night by four military prisoners—John Larkin, Robert Ernest Larkin. Alexander Arthur Walker, George Henry HolleymAn. From what oan be gathered the four men suddenly attacked the guard, whom they overpowered, gagged, and then got completely away. The police authorities have been notified to keep a sharp look-out, but so far there are no tidings of the escapees* The guard la stated to have been badly mauled_ The Larkins are brothers who stowed away a few weeks ago in the bunkers of a steamer leaving for Sydney. On arrival there they were not permitted to land, but were brought back to New Zealand and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for leaving the Dominion without a permit. On expiry of the sentence a few days ago they were handed over to the military authorities, who transferred them to Trentham.
