A terrific earthquake on "Sunday, following earlier shocks, completely destroyed the city of Guatemala, leaving 125,000 people homeless. Many were killed in the catastrophe. LITERALLY WIPED OUT NEW YORK, Dee 31. Fissures opened in 'the middle of Guatemala city The theatres, asylums, and gaols collapsed, many of the inmates being killed and injured. There was indescribable panic, and the final shock literally wiped out the city.
