KING’S THEATRE.
To-night, at the King’s Theatre, all previous records will be eclipsed, the programme including three stars:'“A Gamble in Souls,” “The Secret of the Submarine,” and another episode of “Gloria’s Eomance.” Following is a brief synopsis of “A Gamble in Souls Arthur Worden is a strange individual, conducting religious services at the “Little Jerusalem Mission,” down on the Barbary Coast in Frisco. Owing to his belief in the efficacy of prayer alone in overcoming evil, and his impracticability, he is unpopular. He is finally convinced that the heathen lands of the Orient promise a more fruitful field for his labours. On the way to the mission for the last time he meets Freda Maxey, an entertainer in a cafe, and invites her to come to the mission and learn of the Kingdom of Heaven. He is repulsed, as Freda holds no respect for men of his type. That evening, Tom Leonard, an Australian vaudeville agent, chances into the cafe, and takes notice of Freda. He makes an offer which she accepts. Worden and Freda meet on the ocean liner, but he avoids her,' showing fear of himself, while she shoves him off to the water and rocks below. Hanson hurries back to the hut. Worden crawls from the water more dead than alive, realises the fate which .awaits Freda, and rushes to the hut, finding Hanson with Freda in his arms, leering over her. “Gus Hanson, I am going to kill you,” is Worden’s only remark, as he rushes at the Swede, and they roll in one another’s clutch outside the hut and to the embankment, where Hanson loses his hold and topples over, breaking his neck in the fall. Understanding downs; Worden and Freda realise their love, but Freda claims she is unworthy of him. The situation grows, and then comes a striking finish. There will also be shown a comedy and an ' intensely interesting Gazette. EVERYBODY’S A double-star programme will tonight be shown at Everybody’s.
