AMUSEMENTS
THREE STARS Haddon Chambers, the celebrated author of "Passers B'y," has written many successful plays, but none that has attained the international fame accorded to this wonderfully powerful and brilliant piece of literary art. i The story interests with its novelty, thrills with its dramatic climaxes, and impresses with the masterly way in which the author handles the deeper currents of modern life. As a screen play it scores the artistic and dramatic success of the season. Briefly told the story is as follows:—Peter Waverton, wealthy and scholarly bachelor, finds pleasure in seeking out odd types. They are the "Passers By" of his solitary but luxurious life. Returning from his fiancee's home cue j bitter, stormy evening, he brings into , the shedter of his library two tramps and "Nighty," a night-hawk cabman. Waverton's butler discovers an unconscious woman on the door-step and j carries -her into the house. The wo- ' man is Margaret Summers, awhom Pet- . er loved ten years before. From this point the story of "Passers By" is a series of astonishing climaxes and swift action. It culminates in a scene that for virile force has seldom been aproachepd on the shadow-stage. Another series of "The Mysteries of Myr" and other excellent supports wil Imake a first-class programme.
