AVELLINGTON, December 10.
The High Commissioner’s market report, dated London, December 8, is as follows: (quotations unless otherwise specified being average market prices on spot):
Meat. —No material change in market. All description of meat in small supply and selling prices, without any regard to quality. Small supplies of Dutch mutton and frozen 113 d. New Zealand frozen meat, no supplies available. Argentine, mutton and lamb, small supplies, Hid. Argentine chilled beef, hinds ll£d, fores 9-id.
| Butter. —The Government is pooling j all imported butters and distributing , at a flat rate of 252/ per ewt, without any regard to origin. In addition to butters already Government the Food Controller will take over all butters on arrival at a price to be decided later. Maximum prices remain; , unchanged. There are no quotations | for uncontrolled butter and cheese, j Cheese. —Very scarce at Government prices. The estimated Canadian I cheese stocks in London, (Liverpool, i and Bristol, total B,Sod boxhs, against I 13,002 at the same time last year. S Hemp. Manila market continues i weali - Low grades are scarce, prob- | ably in consequence of alteration in ! tte me fbod of production owing to the | high price obtainable for high grades in America. The output for two weeks ending the Ist December was 44,000 bales. The New Zealand market remains as last reported. Business for forward shipment is difficult on ac- . count of high freights. St. Helena ■ hemp has been sold at auction this week as high as £B9 ss. j Wheat. The market is very quiet ; owing to scarcity of offers. No change i in prices. | Oats. -The market continues firm, MANGAWEKA SALE. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Palmerston j report having a very good j yarding of cattle at their Mangaweka sale on Thursday, the 6th inst. ComI petition was not very keen, but the majority 0 f the cattle changed hands at prices as below:-—Two 2Syr steer* £ll 10s, light fat cows £lO ss, 15month empty heifers £6 7s, 3Jyr bullocks £l4 17s to £ls. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Marton, report having held sales at Hunterville, Taihape, and Manga weka during the week. We had good yardmgs at each place and have to report the following sales:— Me quote: At Huuterville, woolly ewe hoggets 395, cull do 225, 15-month steers £8 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d, others £7 18s, empty cows £5 2s 6d to £5 .15s, fat cows £9 17s, bull £6 7s 6d, At Taihape: 4th wethers 28s to 29s 6d, 2th do 265, 2«yr steers £lO 16s to £l2 12s, poor do £9 17s 6d At Mangaweka: Forward bullocks £ls 10s, Syr steers £l2 to £l2 17s 6d, yearling steers £8 10s to £8 17s, poor do £8 6s, store cows £8 10s.
