THREE STARS Almost flawless is the setting of ‘ ‘ When Love ..is Blind,” the powerful Bathe Gold Booster play now screening at the Three Stars. Florence La Badie is the star and she is wonderfully dainty, and acts with great appeal in the emotional ccenes of the play. She portrays a girl who goes blind, and contracts an alliance with a young artist whom she loves. She expects of course that he will marry her and trusts him completely. Then her sight is restored and the first thing she sees is her lover apparently embracing one of the servants. Heartbroken, she goes away, and it is not , until many dark days have passed that her lover and she are re-united. The scenes of artistic Bohemian life are faithfully pictured, and setting is lavish in the extreme. The last scene is exceedingly dramatic, the heroine's dreadful fear proving to be absolutely } without foundation. The whole drama is a credit to the Bathe studios, and is one of the best they have ever put out. Supporting the above is a Graphic, “The Great Safe Tangle,” “Woman Munitineers,” etc.,

BATTLE OF THE ANCRE. The official kinematrograph, record of “The Battle of the Ancre” is to be screened at the Three Stars Theatre next Wednesday evening. This film, which is being screened under the direction of the Y.M.C.A. by authority of the New Zealand Government, was recently exhibited in Christchurch, and the “Sun” says: “Adjectives are quite out of place is describing the Battle of the Ancre film, which was screened to a packed house in every part. Truth needs no commendation, and the one particular in whics this film stands supreme is its sheer truthfulness. Of the work of preparation nat urally full details arc given—the wonderful concentration of stores and shells, the conveyance of food and munitions, to the forward lines over roads of mud and across rain-sodden country of which the actuality far surpasses the imagination; the passing of the men to the front line trenches, the equipment of the stretch-er-bearers in readiness—all those are pourtrayed. And the artillery in action, eloquent and illuminative as they are of the support they give the infantry, as well as the wonderful tanks, arc shown in forceful simplicity. All the net proceeds derived from the ex hibition of the film are to be devoted to the benefit of our soldiers at the front and in camp, and those who have returned and arc now in New Zealand hospitals. A proportion of 25 per cent will be paid to the local Mayor to use at his discretion for Eed Cross purposes.”
