AMUSEMENTS

* THREE STARS

"Men with me are nothing but a means to an end —I -hate them." This is the scornful gibe of the adventuress who is the central figure in "Vera the Medium," the super-feature film now being screened at the Three Stars to-night. Kitty Gordon plays the title role, and she is the embodiment; of the irresistbile feminine force which is possessed by certain queenly women. With great daring, the author has opposed this force to the nearesK approach to an immovable object in the shape of a man that can be imagined. The man she attacks is the perfect husband, in perfect home surroundings, a man apparently in the forties with a grown-up son. In the struggle between Vera and her victim such dramatic power is reached that his strugles become almost painful. Slowly but surely he sucumbs, and his humiliation is so severe that the drama becomes a striking moral lesson. The dresses worn by the stars are a liberal education in the art of clothes. In private life Kitty. Gordon is Lady Beresford, and it known the fashion world over for the gorgeousness and originality of her dressing/. On the screen in "Vera the Medium'* the lavishness of her gowns is almost unbelievable. Each dress is a creation can truthfully be said of the amazing gowns worn by Kitty Gordon in this picture. Three of the evening dresses are" completely original.
