THE SEASON' S WOOL CLIP.

GOVERNMENT; VALUERS. COMMENCE NEXT WEEK.: Although' if is" yet early in the .season, wool during the past' u-eeks has fc'feri ieoming .Aucklanjd rapidly, and there are already between 6,000 and 8000 bales in store. This will be valued under the scheme by which the Imperial 1 Government has requisitioned the wool supply of the Dominion and the valuations will be carried' out in exactly' the same manner as last year. It .will .be remembered' that established fii;ms.of woolbrokers : were appointed ,Government ; woolbrokers' in respect of . the wool requisitioned. All growers of wool were required to'deliver their wool at the. wool stores of the Government brokers at specified ports. The wool was examined by two expert valuers, one being appointed by the Government and one by the Government's ; broker. Supervising valuers were appointed by the Government to whom any difference between the Government valuer and the Government broker's value as to classification of wool could be referred. Provision was also made for the appointment of umpires as a means o'f settling any disputes which arose in respect to valuation. It was thought at first, in view of the difficult task before the valuers and the fact that they had first to classify the wool and then to value it, that there would be a considerable amount of dissatisfaction in reference to the values. From the outset, however, the scheme proved successful, and the complaints received were remarkably few. Last season, for instance, in one lot of 3,000 bales only one objection was raised. The basis of the valuation last year was a 55 per cent, increase on the prices for the year 1913-14, and the same basis will be taken this year. The valuers commence their work in Auckland next week, and after the first lot has been valued it would, be possible to form some idea of the quality and quantity as compared with the previous season.
