ANOTHER BRITISH ATTACK. GOOD PROGRESS MADE. Received 8.35. LONDON, Oct 30. Sir Douglas reports that at 5.40 this morning he attacked northward of the Ypres-Roulers railway and good progress is reported^ PARIS. Oct 30. A communique states there is a violent artillerying on the right of the Meuse and intermittent cannonading on the rest of the front.' American Headquarters in France report that batteries continue to shell the Germans at intervals. An American patrol has taken the first German prisoners. THE LATEST THRUST. CANADIANS DO GOOD WORK. The United Press correspondent says that tp-day’s attack, on a fourmile front, the Canadians stormed positions fifteen feet higher than Pascchendaele, .and overlooking the village They swarmed up Meecheele Sjur and drove back counter-attacks in disorder.
CANADIANS’ FINE ACHIEVEMENT LONDON, Oct 29 The, United. Press correspondent says, the ground eastward and northward of, Ypres. . continues bad, and there is little prospect of much improvement as the winter , advances. Sir Douglas Haig has. shown his appreciation of the conditions by issuing an order declaring that successes gained under such conditions' are deserving of the highest praise. All the troops did well, and the results achieved by the Canadians were remarkably fine. The ground gained is of the highest importance. A correspondent states that the French successes between Houthulst and the Yser directly threatens the enemy’s rear at Dixmude.
