' THE .BALTIC .BATTLE GERMANS LOSE HEAVILY. RUSSIANS LOSE TWO SHIPS Received 9.40. LONDON, Oct 23. A Russian naval communique states that enemy submarines have been discovered in the Gulf of Finland. In the recent operations among the Baltic Isles ; the enemy, through mines, submarine attack, and gunfire had two dreadnoughts, one cruiser, twelve torpedoers, a transport, and numerous mine-sweepers put out of though their ultimate fate is not known. We established definitely the loss of six enemy torpedoers. We lost the battleship’Slava and the large destroyer. Grom ;) The fighting value of our other ships, is unimpaired. RELIGION IN RUSSIA. REVERSION TO ROME. , Received 11 a..m ROME, October 22. The Russian Minister has handed to the Pope the text of the new religion laws, whereby the Pope is to appoint the metropolitan archbishop, and bishops, subject to the Russian Government’s aproval. The Pope will be free to- make minor appointments, if he informs the Government. Jesuits will be readmitted to Russia and all religious societies will be allowed full liberty of association. Conversions to Catholicism will be allowed. ENGINES BECAME FROZEN. Received 11 a.m. PARIS, Oct 23. > It is believed the Zeppelin engines had froze. When it was cut off it had been two hours drifting over London. This is the real cause of disaster, as it would be impossible to re-start at a high altitude. The Zeppelins then drifted to France and were forced to descend at dawn when French aeroplanes discovered them. GERMANS CLAIM 20,000 PRISONERS. LONDON, October 22. German official. —Our booty taken at Oesel ( Moon and Dago Islands is 20,000 prisoners and 100 guns.
