SHOOTING AND FISHING.

To the Editor. Sir, —My attention has been calle to the Leader appearing ifc your issu of the Ist. inst., wherein certain state ments and accusations have been mad concerning my Society. You state Inter Alia:—“That th Wanganui Branch that does nothin whatever towmrds furnishing the spor scoops the money for licenses for fisl ing almost to the Taihape Boundary’ again j-ou state “That all license taken out at Mataroa or Turangarer do not benefit in the slightest the eaus of sport in this district, the mone; goes to Wanganui which does absolute ly nothing towards furnishing th sport in this district, the money goe to Wanganui which does absolutely no thing towards furnishing the sport fo anglers.” I (therefore earliest opportunity of. denying you accusations and placing the folio wins facts before your readers: My societ; per its. former secretary, Mr. E. N

Liffiton, liberated trout in the Hau tapu during his term of office, Sluice ' have taken up the secretaryship of th Society I have appointed an agent a Mataroa and Turangarere to dea with all matters and issue licenses t< anglers residing in our district, whicl extends northwards from Jacobsen ’i Bridge to Waiouru, which includes th< Hautapu between those points. Mj society last year liberated a large con slgnment of yearling trout in the Hau tapu between Mataroa and Hihitahi and an order for a still larger consign ment of yearlings went forward oi August 16th last to be liberated ii the Hautapu. My society has no agen in Taihape and has touting for licenses outside of its owi district. Furthermore prior to my tak ing up office the Taihape Branch of it: parent society received the majority of license fees of fishermen residing ii our district. With regard to shooting licenses my society has never yet re ceived a single fee in the distrie above referred to therefore they mus have been credited to the Taihap* branch. I think in the above' circum stances I am justly entitled to ask yoi to withdraw your Charges against -mj society as I feel sure you have beer sadly misinformed as to the tru< position.—l am, etc., THOS. HV JAMES, Hon. Sec. Wanganui Asslimatisatior Society. (The above is somewhat belatjfeJ have already discovered our e?Spr re suiting from faulty information and w< lost no time in frankly stating: “W< were in error in stating that the Wa nganui Acclimatisation Society liber ated no fish in the Turangarere waters as Mr. A. O. Mulvay informs us thai three years ago he received TOCO frv foi liberation and,, last year ho set free three cans of yearlings. Mr. Mulvaj is expecting a further consignment tc arrive shortly.”—Ed.) ; v
