IN THE AIR.
LIEUT. GUYNEMER MISSING FOREMOST FRENCH AIRMAN. PARIS, Sept 27. The "Journal" states that the famous French airman Guynerner is missing. It is believed that he fell into the sea after an engagement with an overwhelming number of enemy machines. FRENCH AERIAL HERO. GUYNEMER DOWNS 53,AEROPLANES. PARISj S«pt 27. Captain Guynerner was killed after •downing his fifty-third aeroplane in French territory. An eye-witness of the last fight states that Guynerner attacked five Albatrosses over the sea at Dunkirk. He downed two before he himself fell. He was five times rejected from the Army owing to poor physique. GREAT AERIAL FIGHTING. HEAVY LOSSES ON BOTH SIDES LONDON, Sept 28. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Our airmen encountered strong opposition. There were heavy losses on both sides. Fifteen enemy machines were downed, and thirteen of ours are missing. NAVAL AIRMEN'S GOOD WORK. LQNDON, Sept 28. The Admiralty reports that naval aeroplanes to-day bombed St DenisWestrom aerodrome, also sheds, and fifteen Gothas lined up at an aerodrome. A direct hit on the latter was observed. All our machines rejturned safely.
