PEACE MOVEMENT.

"DEVOID OF SENSE.” SHARP FRENCH COMMENT. ON THE HUN REPLY. PARIS. Sept 23. The French newspapers regard the general tenor of the Central Powers replies to the Pope as devoid of sense, and as containing no distinct or cbncrete indications of any sort. Unofficial reports received in Rome indicate that the Vatican has received private communications from Vienna and Berlin for the Pope’s personal guidance. On these greatly depend any future pontificial peace action. Vatican circles believe that the replies to a great extent were framed for particular home consumption. CENTRAL POWERS’ REPLIES. A PICTURESQUE DEFINITION. Received 11.15. ROME, Sept 24. Newspapers are unanimous in regarding the Central Empires’ replies as a grotesque patchwork of reticence and subterfuge, and describe the authors as obsequious charlatans. While repeating their professions of kissing the Papal slippers, they are really pulling the Pope’s leg.

TURKEY AND BULGARIA REPLY. COPENHAGEN, Sept. 23 The “Tageblatt’s” Vienna correspondent states that Turkey’s and Bulgaria’s replies to the Pope were delivered yesterday. Turkey demands her territory unviolated, and Bulgaria demands the regulation of her frontiers. ROME, Sept 24. The “Giornale d’ltalia” states that the Austrian and German replies have created two different views at the Vatican. While Cardinal Gasparri considers them wholly unsatisfactory, the Pope regards them as adhering to the Pontifical suggestions, It is believed the Holy See will reply by verbal notes hoping to obtain more specific statements. HUNGARIAN FAVOUR PIfACS. BEENE, Sept. 24. The Archbishop 6f Buda Post presided over a pacifist meeting there to-day. Erzberger was the principal speaker. Karolys and the other Hungarian politicians were present. The meeting passed a resolution in favour'of peace on the basis of the Papal Note.
