RED CROSS DAY

Hihitahi surpassed themselves their wonderful effort on Saturday last at the local Red Cross Shop. The display in the window and the abundance of the goods inside witness to the energy and devotion of Mr. and Mrs. # Arthur who left no stone unturned in their efforts to top the poll. Added to their generous labour and the generous response of the people of Hihitahi, the persnoal example given by Mr. Luers was enough to assure the public that a record was being put up. The total of - £lll, and possibly more’ is really a credit to the district as a whole, It certifies to the generosity of the citizens —it reveals the tirelessness. of their loyalty and love. The good old British bull-dog tenacity is here exhibited after three years of war in the unslackened efforts and tireless generosity of the people o£ this district, who are sticking to it and still do their bit. Some no doubt ly more they can afford because feeling that ordinary prudence must in these times of stress make way for extraordinary self-denial. It is to be hoped that other centres richer and more populous than Hihitahi will be inspired to a similar effort and a similar example of wholehearted generosity. The shop next Saturday, is in charge, of Taoroa.
