DANCES AND SOCIALS

OLD GIRLS' HOCKEY CLUB DANCE. The Old Girls’ Hockey Club dance,, held in the Town Hall last night proved a very successful ~ There was an attendance of some: 60 couples of dancers and also a fair number of onlookers in the gallery. The floor was in first-class order and made dancing a pleasure; the stage was nicely decorated, as was also the supper room. The whole of the arrangements reflected great credit on the committee, of whom Misses Laurenson and Leahy were joint secretaries. The music for the dancing was provided gratis by Mrs Arthur (Hihltahi), who journeyed to to assist in the patriotic object and Mr Geo. Martin (cornet). During the evening Miss Kathleen Blomfield gave /a much - display of fancy dancing, and Mrs Arthur rendered several vocal items. The efforts of both these ladies were very well received by those present. A cake, presented by the Women’s Working Club, which was auctioned by Mr Stanley Peyton, handsome s um of £9 ss. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Messrs S. Dunbar and E. McLaughlan As a result of the function the fund for sending Christmas parcels to our soldiers will be considerably benefited.
