EVERYBODY’S The Paramount pictures “The Slave Market’ ’ showing at Everybody’s tonight, has much of the sensational in, its story and a great element of charm in the actual picture itself. Of peculiar interest to the young folk is “TheSlave arket. insomuch as it combinesail the thrills of such favourites as “The Pirates of Penzance,” and “Treasure Isand,” Miss Pauline Frederick takes the role of the well bred heroine, The plot concerns the daughter of a wealthy gentleman. She lives in the West Indies; her father is away from home He returns and takes her away in a ship, but out on the main they are attacked and captured by a | crew of men under the "Jolly Roger.” ■ Th e one survivor is the girl, wdio is taken by the pirate chief. Before he can work his will on her, however, she slays him, Short, sharp fights on the sea, treasure trove won and hidden in. the good old pirate way, quarrels, violence —everything that is sensational—is yet brought within thb bounds of diversion by the network of romance. Specialty good are the settings of “The Slave Market,” some of the scenes being beautiful almost beyond comparison. The supports are up to the highstandard maintained in this theatre. THREE STARS GRAND DOUBLE PROGRAMME. “The Long Chance” —Harley Hennage is the most successful gambler in the little prospecting village of Gila Junction. He loves Marie, and it is with a heavy heart that he seees her married to Richard Cofblay. He leaves the town and installs himself as proprietor of a saloon at San Pasqual.,, Meanwhile Corblay arid a stranger, by nam e Carey, accompanied by the former’s’ Indian servant, set off in search of gold. In the desert they are overtaken by a sandstorm and Carey brutally assaults his partner and leaves him to die. A few weeks later the Indian staggers into Marie’s home and. tells her that her husband is lost. Shesends him to Hennage, who brings her and the. baby girl to San Pasqual, where she uses his influence to securefor her a position as waitress in the town’s only ‘ ‘ hotel. ’ ’ Hennage watches over Donna with the same care and tenderness as he bestowed on her dead mother. He goes into the desert in an attempt to locate the claim which Cor- ' blay and Carey were to work, anl finds J the record of the latter’s treachery. The claim has been purchased by Robert McGraw, a young engineer, whom Hennage meets and finally brings to San Pasqual, where he and Donna learn to love each other. Later, Carey, hearing from the Records Offices that McGraw possesses the claim, visits the town, in order to buy the young man off. He is seen and recognised by the Indian, who at once informs Hennage, and together they wring a confession from the terror-stricken man, who is forced to sign a cheque for. ten thousand dollars as part payment for the gold he so treacherously obtained. Leaving him to the care of the Indian, Hennage proceeds to Donna’s home, but is shot by an outlaw whom he has ordered to leave the town. Before his death, however, he learns that the Indian has killed Carey, and, as a last act, confides Donna to Robert’s care. The programme will be shown for one night only.
