LADIES' HOCKEY CLUB.
SOCIAL AND DANCE. For some time past the members of the Taihape Ladies’ Hockey Club have been discussing the question of holding a social and dance in connection with the and the initial steps were taken a few days ago at meeting of members.’ The project V took a concrete form a&'a meeting of the Club last night, held in the sup--r room of the Town Hall, when there were about 25 members present. Mr Stewart Dunbar occupied the chair. It was decided to hold a social and dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday, September 13th. The prices of the tickets were: Double tickets ss ; ladies’ single tickets Is 6d, gentlemenmen’g single tickets 3s'~6d. A surprise is to he provided in the supper room of the Town Hall, and the following ladies were appointed to canvass for contributions for it: Misses Campbell (2), Leahy, Murphy,. Dowling, and Mrs Dunbar. Various matters of detail in connection with the supper were discussed, and ladies appointed to attend to the carrying out of them. I was unanimously decided to extend an invitation to aIT returned , soldier s in the district to be present.-^ Messrs S. E. McLaughlin,. and Olsen M.C,s. An effort is to be made to secure the services of Mr Edlin’s orchestra, for the dancing, it being generally admitted that the music provided by this combination at the Reurned. Soldiers’ Ball was all that could be desired. The stage is to be fitted up as a v drawing room, and tables provided for cards and other games. Thi s task was left in the hands of MissesParkes, Kearins, and Mr Munro. After some discussion it was decided to utilise the gallery for spectators at a charge of Is. , The social part of the programme will consist of dancing, vocal and instrumental items. So much for the arrangements of the functioii, now for the object. It will scarcely be necessary. for us to remind our readers that the winter is approaching in the northern hemisphere, and what it means to our soldiers in the firing line will dmibtless be familiar from articles and letters appearing in these columns at various times. The proceeds of the social and dance are to be devoted to providing “Christmas parcels for our soldiers at the front/’an object, which V must appeal to all. It is unnecessary • for us to stress the appreciation with which . these parcels will .be received by our “boys in khaki.” Those' who cannot attend the social can assist by giving a sympathetic hearing and generous response to appeals made for provisions for the supper, of which they will hear more anon. The ladies are anxiou s to run. the function at a minimum of cost, so as to provide as large a sum as possible for the above object. Tickets may be obtained from Misses Laurenson and Leahy (joint secretaries), or from any member of the Club.
